Spent 3 cold days ski touring up Whale Ck northwest of Polebridge and found some great skiing with some northerly wind effect up high. Skied a steep northerly couloir and moderate east and south aspects. Steep north lines had isolated shallow windslabs that were easy to ski control. Southerly aspects were most suspect, where we encountered a dozen whumpfing collapses during our ascents, but little cracking and no avalanche activity. Pit results on a 34 degree south slope at 6600 ft yielded an ECTP 26 at 70 cm down from the surface on a layer of facets above a sun/rain crust. Column Test failed at 24 on the same layer. The soft snow above had a few discernible layers but no propogation. Below the crust the snowpack was well settled and the ground facets were rounding and reasonably strong. Total snowpack at this spot was 180 cm. Skied several nice laps on this sparsely treed south slope with no incidents.
