Quick Observation
Day off fun tour in the Bowman Lake area, which is outside of our advisory area in the Park.
Recent avalanche activity is consistent with what we have been seeing in other locations. Dozens of shallow wet loose, mostly D1 to 1.5 but a few longer running sluffs up to D2. A handful of wind slabs up to D2 from last storm.
We traveled primarily on frozen surfaces on southerlies this morning and wind affected or powdery northerlies in the afternoon. The only sign of instability was some localized collapses and cracking on basal weak layers near the valley floor, in gladed shady aspects. The snowpack is noticeably shallower and weaker here. We could also hear a couple of wet slides coming off of cliffs.
