Observation in foothills south of Elk Calf Mountain, accessible just off of the Sklyland Road about 4 miles in. Two days before our arrival there was a rain event, and a rain crust had formed and obvious on windward slopes and was variably buried on leeward slopes by approximately 2 inches of snow the following day. Pit was dug on a SE aspect at 5688ft elevation and 22 degree slope. Temps were -4.5 C air, -3.5 degrees C surface and 0 degrees C at 10 110 cm snow depth. Winds approx. 8mph sustained with gusts of 15 to 20 mph. ECT in 123cm of snow. ECTN12 @ 105cm, and ECTN23 at 90cm. CT showed CT12 Q1 at 90. We believe the new rain crust was at 90 cm, and the area where our pit was dug was wind loaded, burying the rain crust approximately 30 cm.
