Webcams don’t lie. East glacier webcam showed a winter wonderland on Thursday so we went east hoping for some late season pow. 2-3” new snow at the Firebrand TH with cloudy skies light wind and light flurries. S face of calf robe looked very thin so we took the summer trail route around the corner. We were pleased to find 4-5” new powdery snow at elevation. New snow was wind drifted in all the usual spots and these isolated drifts were not reactive. Made the Red Crow ridge and enjoyed stable E and NE pow turns. Sun affect was minimal on S faces due to clouds and NE wind kept things cold. New snow was still dry on most aspects above 6k feet when we exited at 4pm, below 6k, new snow was getting heavy and was all melted back at truck. If winds pick up, there’s plenty out there for transport. Snowpack under the fresh was mostly isothermic except at high north aspects where a winter like snowpack still exists. Had great visibility and did not see any new avalanche activity.
