Quick Observation
Climbed SW ridge of Little Dog from Marias Pass.
Mostly clear skies, no precip, and pretty much calm winds until about 1400. Then north winds picked up and became more steady. But still in the light category causing some minor wind-loading above 6000 feet.
Plenty of recent wind slabs at all elevations from the past couple days. Cut a lot of small test slopes today but resulted only in some minor cracking and a couple tiny slabs (maybe 2-4' wide) releasing.
Saw about 5-10, D1-D1.5-size old crowns on nearby terrain (mostly southerly slopes in the 6000-7500 ft. elev range). Thinking these were likely old storm slabs from the cycle last week. Or perhaps a few were more recent wind slabs? (photo). Did not see any avalanches that had released today.
Excellent visibility but could not find any evidence of a recent persistent slab avalanche. But didn't have the binocs today...
