Red Meadow storm slabs

We rode up the Red Meadow Cr. road today and toured around the lake itself.

• There was 18-24 inches of recent snow, with generally equal amounts at all elevations.
• We found widespread evidence of recent avalanches at the new/old snow interface.  Most of these seemed to be approximately 12-24 inches deep and 50-100 feet wide.  Most were D 1.5 with a few that ran several hundred feet.  
• There was minimal sign of recent wind.
• The recent cold nights have formed surface hoar on all aspects and at least up to 6700 feet.  
• We did find buried surface hoar 110 cm down on a protected NW slope.  This surface hoar was 6mm in size and was reactive in a Propogation Saw Test (PST END 35/100)
• Temperatures did not appear to warm up enough to change the snow surface at all today.

We had planned on sking on Lake Mtn today, however, with the amount of avalanche activity and reactive buried surface hoar present we chose to stick to lower angled treed slopes.  The trailbreaking and skiing was fantastic.
