Round the Horn

Great walk around Snowshed today. Blue skies and calm winds kept the cold temps at bay all day (and did little to effect the solar aspect snow quality). Skied N, NE, E, and SE aspects, all feeling remarkably similar with 20+cm of well-preserved powder over a slightly harder and supportable layer. Noticed obvious wind effect near ridgelines, especially above 6k' but the fresh wind slabs were soft and seem well-adjusted with the snowpack below. No avalanches, collapses, or cracking noted.

Quick pit at 7k' on a 30 degree SE aspect with a total depth of 250cm:

• ECTN21 @ 193cm from ground on a density change below a wind-effected layer
• ECTP27 @ 155cm from ground on small facets just above the 1/17 crust 
• Last result Proved that the weak snow around the1/17 interface is still potentially threatening (even though its buried a good ways down).
