Quick Observation

Traveled to the upper portion of the Shed 5 path (BNSF) to gather data related to current conditions and forecasted weather.

  • Saturated snow surface up to 6,000 ft today. 
  • Rollerballs and minor point release avalanches observed later in the day on South-East aspects.
  • No Persistent Slab avalanche activity observed in our location today.
  • Test results showed no propagation with the bottom 20cm of the snowpack being faceted.

More comments about the snowpack and weather: 
Mid-day temperature just before Noon, 36F at 6,000ft with wet surface snow and sticking to skins. Inverted snowpack with the top 10cm begin high density saturated snow on top of new low density snow from Monday. HS 60" on leeward slope (East) at 6,000 ft. The snowpack consisted of 30cm of 4F snow over an 82cm 1F/P hard slab. The last 22cm above the ground was 2-3mm facets. Tests results showed no propagation. ECTN20 down 33cm at the new/old snow interface.
