Toured up to Apgar Lookout, and then north along the ridge of the Apgars, then down to the Camas Road. No recent avalanche activity was observed. Breakable surface rain crusts, 3" thick hollow feeling surface slabs on the ice crust, and rock hard ice were found on all aspects. Long frozen cracks in the snow pack were found, probably from the last rain/snow/deep freeze event. Weather was overcast, with afternoon winds out of the southwest. The variety of crusts will make for an extremely variable bed surface for the next snow cycle.
Good ski edges were essential. One party member found ski crampons for steep portions of the tour very helpful.
