Sluffing on Penrose

Solar-induced sluffing was our primary concern here.

• 3" to 4" of settled new snow, with some light wind affect from SW winds
• Several shallow soft slabs and loose snow avalanches ran during the storm last night,  all above 6,000', and all D1 in size
• Rollerballs and numerous loose snow avalanches ran today on sunny aspects, all elevations, triggered by solar warming (dry and wet loose). All D1 in size. 
• Storm slabs were unreactive today on test slopes and steep terrain except in isolated drifts. We produced minor cracking in wind whales and triggered a table-sized, 8" slab below a high elevation ridge.
• A very large cornice fell off of Nyack last night. It entrained a large amount of loose snow and ran surprisingly far to the valley bottom.  It didn't trigger any slabs, but the sluff was D2 in size.
• Light winds, few clouds, mild temps.
