Sneaky storm, sneaky persistent slab structure

Bigger than expected storm totals, storm slab cycle, and increasing persistent slab avalanche concerns above Lost Johnny Road

• 12" of low density snow at 5,000', and 6-8" at higher elevations.  The new snow produced a widespread but shallow storm slab cycle at all elevations, harmless in size, breaking on mid-storm layers. 
• The 2/2 (Groundhog) crust is buried between 2 to 4 feet deep under a soft (F to 4F) slab.  It did not produce results in stability tests or show signs of instability, but a soft slab over weak layer structure is now more widespread across windsheltered terrain.  Waiting for more load and slab consolidation?
• We triggered one older windslab from last weekend's winds, 1 foot deep. Most terrain we traveled in was relatively unaffected by Friday night's winds.
• With obvious storm instabilities and some concerns for larger persistent slabs, we traveled in steep but benchy terrain with clean runouts...to minimize the consequences of a slide, small or large, and avoided terrain traps.
