We traveled to Snowslip Mountain in GNP to work on the weather station. It’s fixed!
We descended into upper Shields Creek, but first dig a pit at just under 7000 ft. on an east aspect.
Notable pit/test (x2 ECTs) results:
After our pit results we chose a lower angled line through gladed trees. Moving along the top of the ridge to get to our line we noticed shooting cracks involving the storm slab.
Upon descending, the second skier down triggered a small storm slab pocket (upper right arrow in image). The third skier intentionally triggered another avalanche (D 1.5; 20 cm deep, 60 feet wide) on a small rollover (lower arrow) lower on the slope. Both on east aspects.
Winds were calm all day. Visibility varied from good to poor. Snowfall throughout the morning ended around 1100. In more protected areas, the slab was less cohesive and skiing was deep.
