Quick Observation

We drove into the Middle Fork with plans of doing some ridge walking. After a soggy sled ride to 5000 feet, we decided to pull the plug and come back another day. Visibility was low and the rain line was no where in sight with views up to roughly 6000'.

  • We observed multiple crowns and wet loose avalanches alongside the road in low elevation paths. Some debris piles were large enough to injure a person.
  • We found 1 to 2 feet of new snow at low elevations.
  • Heavy rainfall at our highpoint of 5000 feet.
  • The top 3 inches of snow was wet with moist snow below.
