Splendid Skyland

FOFAC board member Jenny Cloutier and I went looking for avalanche activity from the 1/12 Pineapple Express along with surface conditions. 

• It was hard to miss the previously reported impressive fracture line on the SE face of Baldhead Mountain. After several days of wind loading, the crown still appeared to be several feet deep.
• We noted a handful of crowns from storm slab avalanches, but they were considerably thinner and difficult to distinguish due to drifting by the wind.
• One glide crack was observed on a SE face at mid-elevation. 
• This area experienced a wet loose cycle with debris piles up to D2 in size.
• The dreaded surface crust thickened as we gained elevation and was 1" thick at 6000'.
