Storm slab Canyon Creek

Traveled to the southern Whitefish Range due to this area being favored with 2.12" of water recorded at the WMR summit weather station over a 36 hour period.

• 6-8" of recent dense snow was found at mid and upper elevations with 6-8" storm slab development noted primarily at middle elevations.
• Storm slab was generally stubborn to triggering except on steep rollovers at middle elevations.
• The sun crust which formed Wednesday was observed at mid and upper elevations and varied between 1-3" thick. It was buried 6-8" below the surface. 
• Obvious wind transportation had developed large cornice features at upper elevations.
• Recent substantial wind scouring and deposition noted at upper elevations.
• Convective showers through the day deposited graupel.
• Cracking underfoot was observed but shooting cracks were infrequent.
• 1 dry loose slide observed in Skook Chutes which was the only evidence of recent avalanche activity. Poor visibility prohibited opportunities for quality photos and limited views of surrounding terrain.
