Surface hoar issues in the Canyon

Toured to Kona area and found the recently buried surface hoar to be surprisingly reactive today

• At upper elevations, we skied several steep pitches with minimal results.  A few narrow/pockety soft slabs that handled more like sluffs.  We noted one recently triggered soft slob that was about 10 feet wide
• Around 5500' on a northerly aspect, we descended into a reactive elevation band of surface hoar.  We triggered numerous soft slabs that broke wider, shooting cracks, and collapses.  Slabs were breaking about 8-10" deep on buried surface hoar.  The surface hoar was not on top of a rain crust here, but still producing.  We managed the problem by choosing small, inconsequential steep pitches and keeping close communication and visuals on partners
• Between 5,000 and 5,700', we noted numerous signs of instability from other users during the past 2 days including slides and shooting cracks.  This layer is fickle and challenging to forecast for...PLEASE send us a quick photo, text, or email of these instabilities to help the accuracy of our forecasts.  
• A couple of large glide cracks opening on southerly aspects in the Skook Chutes and Dorothy.
