It was a sunny day to tour up Skoololeel peak. We got an early start with a hope of skiing the south facing slope before the sun could affect the snow. After some digging of pits and snow analysis, we decided a trip down the south face was a safe bet and the surface hoar was very beautiful reflecting in the sun. The crust layer found in our snow pits was very prevalent skiing down, but the snow deposited above it made for some excellent skiing. After skinning back up we decided to take a couple of laps on the low angle trees skier's right of our skin track. We did not have any avalanche activity duing our day.
We took the 316 road from Whitefish Moutain Resort to the skin track up Skookaleel peak. Our group took one run down the south face of Skookaleel to the gully between the peak and the shoots. We then skinned back up and skied down the ridge skier's right of the skin track about 3/4 of the way down. We then skinned back up to the shelf looking back at the peak (almost to the top) and then skied back down to the Canyon Creek road and back into the resort.
