Quick Observation

Toured east of the area and saw recent avalanches on SW, S, SE, and N aspects. A variety of forms and sizes, point releases, slabs, and "patches."  None looked bigger than D2 but it was hard to judge from the distance. We did not ski Kona because even on a good day I'm suspicious of the top 200ft  of vertical. We did not find the ice crust others have described though all the snow was wind pressed and dense. It as like skiing groomers with ice pellets. The snow was even densely and uniformly packed around tree trunks. There were several new tree blow downs in the forest and along the ridges.
