Upper Disbrow Country

On January 15th, we dug a pit on a NE facing slope at ~6500 feet. Our total depth was 179cm. We performed two stability test and recorded a hasty pit profile. Our site was ~25 feet below Grant Ridge, but appeared to be in an area with little wind effect. the slope angle at this site was 31 degrees. 1st test: ECTX, however with a little extra encouragement, we were able to produce a failure on a faceted layer 53cm above the ground. This layer was stubborn but still concerning. Progressive Compression, Q2/Q3 shear quality. 2nd test: CT14 RP. This test produced a failure on what we believe was the January 9th "rain crust" 129cm above the ground (50cm below the surface). However I believe this elevation was above the rain line. In quick pole probe assessments at lower and middle elevations, the rain crust layer was more pronounced. Moderate warming by mid afternoon was producing some small wet loose activity on sunny aspects. We were in the upper elevations until 5pm and did not note any significant wet loose activity up high on monday. We did not dig on January 16th. We did note surface hoar development on sheltered slopes below 6000ft. The surface hoar was not as prevalent at higher elevations. We skied a southeast facing gully into tunnel creek at the end of our tour on 1/16. The air temperature was cooling with the clouds rapidly moving in around 2pm. We did not note any wet loose activity during our descent, however the snow was quite moist below 5500' and there was an abundance of wet loose debris in the gully from prior warming events the past couple days.
