Wind affected snow in Wahoo and Rescue

We traveled to the Wahoo/Rescue area of the Flathead Range to look for wind affected snow from recent SW winds.

• At mid-elevation ridgelines, recent snow was unaffected by winds.
• At upper elevations, large swaths of terrain were affected by winds leaving sections of scoured snow and wind slab.
• Wind slab varied between 2-8" thick and was generally unreactive.
• Mid-elevation north facing terrain was substantially affected by winds in the Rescue Creek drainage.
• Natural sluffing on Nyack Mt was the only avalanche activity observed.
• One 20' shooting crack with associated snow that moved 1 foot downhill before breaking apart.
