Toured out beyond Gouhlies. Dug a pit on a north-facing aspect just below the ridge, ECTN 10cm on the new storm snow, and ECTP 25 at a knife-hard ice crust layer at 40 cm from the surface. Debris from the wind storm last week was apparent, as was carnage seen through the day in the form of snapped and downed trees. The new storm snow sloughed off the facet layer below with every turn, but as the day progressed the new storm snow became more cohesive, with a few shallow impressive shooting cracks seen later in the day, and small crowns on steep rollovers that kept us making conservative choices. We encountered a burly semi-supportable crust layer just under the storm snow at about 5800' that made the new snow more reactive and the skiing below that sub-par.
