Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack: 

Dug snow pit on a north aspect at 6300 feet. ECTN 30. Column was not reactive with no signs of propagation. Still observing several faceted layers below the January 19th rain crust. There were 6-8 inches of new snow on top of the crust.

Investigation of the surface snow in this particular area seemed to be morphing. Looking like crystals were starting to bond from the warming and precipitation around January 19th? The morphing was allowing the snow characteristics ability to form snowballs (weak, but there was more cohesion).
