Climbed Elk Mountain today in hopes of skiing some sun softened snow. Though we had mostly clear skies and mild temperatures at the trailhead conditions above 5600' were winter like. A strong west wind and below freezing temperatures kept the snowpack frozen all day. Boot penetration was 0-5 cm. We skinned for a brief time and boot packed the southeast ridge to the summit. Conditions remained frozen and we skied down the same ridge. There were a few old point release wet slides on the se face and a couple areas where small sections of the cornice had fell.
