Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Orginally planned on heading up Elk Mountain but the West facing slope looked very wind scoured so we decided to head over and try the east aspect of sub Shields.  Dug a pit right below the summit and found close to a foot of fresh wind affected snow on top of a very solid snowpack.  Did not get any propagation in the ECT so we rode along the ridge and got a few wind slabs to break (around 4 inches deep).  Once we dropped below the ridge there was much less fresh snow on top the hard pack and did not notice any moving snow.  Then around 6,000 feet we saw the grizzly tracks heading north.  Time to start packing the bear spray!
